Muzeum Ziemi Prudnickiej

     Muzeum Ziemi Prudnickiej, założone w 1912 roku, to instytucja regionalna w Prudniku, prezentująca kolekcje z zakresu archeologii, etnografii i historii południowej części obecnego województwa opolskiego.

 

     Historia muzeum sięga testamentu Emila Metznera, miejskiego radnego, który przekazał zgromadzone przez siebie pamiątki historyczne. W okresie 1929-1945 muzeum działało w ratuszu, zajmując dwie sale.

 

     Po II wojnie światowej, 10 maja 1959 roku, muzeum wznowiło działalność z inicjatywy Józefa Wierzyńskiego, początkowo jako filia Muzeum Śląska Opolskiego. Mieściło się w średniowiecznych basztach oraz przylegającym do nich budynku, który wcześniej pełnił różne funkcje, m.in. arsenału, więzienia miejskiego, wieży ciśnień, schroniska młodzieżowego i więzienia Gestapo.

 

    W 2010 roku muzeum rozszerzyło swoją działalność, otwierając Centrum Tradycji Tkackich przy ul. Królowej Jadwigi 23.

 

    W 2017 roku partnerskie miasto Northeim podarowało muzeum 200 eksponatów, wywiezionych tam podczas II wojny światowej.

 

    Muzeum składa się z kilku obiektów, takich jak Arsenał (siedziba główna), Centrum Tradycji Tkackich i Wieża Woka.
